Industry Collaboration in Engineering Education

Industry is required to respond to rapid technological change, overcome the challenges of economic crisis, and compete with large-scale international companies. The conference will explore methods for training engineers that can succeed in meeting these challenges. Many universities require students to participate in advanced, practical projects as part of their engineering studies. Call for Papers
Those who are interested in delivering a 10-20 minute presentation at the conference are invited to submit a paper on one of the following issues:1. Do current engineering programs meet the demands of today’s marketplace?2. Do current engineering programs have an optimal ratio between theory and practice?3. How can industry contribute to the design of engineering programs?4. What are the differences between the skills demanded in the various fields of engineering?5. How can engineering programs make the balance between research and the needs of industry?6. Should engineering students participate in industry projects as part of their training and to what extent?7. Some reputable universities abroad require engineering students to participate in industry projects. Faculty members are also involved, and the projects may be useful for industry in the future. Are such projects appropriate for Israeli students and industry?

Submission Procedure

a. Submission of a proposal for a 10-20 minute presentation must be received by October 11, 2009.

The submission must include:Title of the presentation (with a 2-3 line description)Names of the paper’s authors and their institutional affiliationsEmail and mobile phone number of the presenter

b. The conference committee will send email notification of acceptance or rejection of the paper by October 18, 2009.
Selection will be based upon the paper’s relevance to the subject of the conference.

c. Abstracts of accepted papers must be received by email by October 28, 2009.
The abstract should be no longer than 500 words, in 12 point Arial font with 1.5 line spacing.The abstract file must be Word 2007, Word 2003 or PDF format.The file name must be the name of the presenter, followed by 2009.

d. PowerPoint presentations (.ppt or .pptx) must be received by email by November 5, 2009.
